Professor Ambrose Alikidon VOH Jr, JP, FCVSN, CFIARN, FARWA, (Impa Bachama) became the
Acting Executive Secretary of the ARCN on 26th November, 2016, upon the end of tenure and exit of the erstwhile Executive Secretary on 25th November 2016. Prior to his appointment as Acting Executive Secretary, Prof Voh Jr was Director, Coordination of Technical Research Programme of the Council.
Prof Voh Jr holds the degrees of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1979), M. Sc. Theriogenology (1985) and Ph.D. Theriogenology (1998) all from the University: Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, He in addition holds Certificate in Artificial Insemination Management of the Milk Marketing Board, UK, 1985
Prof. Ambrose A.Voh (Jr) joined Gongola State as a Veterinary Officer in Gembu (Mambila), in charge of disease control and farm clinician. He began his research and teaching career in 1980 as a research fellow in the artificial Insemination unit of National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI- ABU), Shika rising to his present rank of Professor in 2001.
Among his contribution to research and innovation are:
a) Intensive Breeding Programme (IBP) for dairy cattle using oestrus synchronization and artificial insemination for the demarcation of Breeding and calving seasons aimed at attaining the optimum-breeding targets of one-calf- per-cow- per-year.
b) The use of rectal palpation in the diagnosis and ageing of pregnancy in Bunaji cattle has been characterized and a pregnancy diagnosis chart established.
Prof. Voh (Jr) was a visiting Professor at Kano State University of Science and Technology in 2005-2008 and Adjunct Professor at the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, 2005-2007. He has served in 33 Adhoc and standing committees at NAPRI and ABU. He was at various time Head of units, Departments and Programmes at NAPRI and ABU. He served as Executive Director/ CEO of NAPRI from 2008- 2012.
A visionary leader in research and community-directed agricultural research interventions, he appointed as a commissioner for education, Adamawa State from December 2014 – May 2015.
He was seconded to the ARCN in April, 2016, on the request of the Council as Director, Coordination of Technical Research (CTR) and became the Acting Executive Secretary of the Council on the 26 th November, 2016 upon the expiration of the tenure of the Executive Secretary.
Prof Voh (Jr) is well published with over 100 publications in journals, conferences and proceedings, books, book chapters and reports. He is a keen sportsman and community leader.
